Vacuum technology for the packaging industry

Busch Vacuum Pumps and Systems demonstrates the latest developments in the field of vacuum technology for the packaging industry at Anuga FoodTec. Focus of the trade fair exhibition will be the topic of cost reduction during vacuum generation. This can be achieved by selecting the appropriate vacuum generation system, optimising the existing vacuum supply process and implementing an individual service concept. To this end, Busch offers a customised vacuum system audit for producers and processors of foodstuff. A vacuum expert from Busch inspects the existing vacuum supply, including all tubes, controls and the ambient conditions and then presents the potential for improvement.

Busch is exhibiting in hall 6, stand F061.

Specialist magazine “Kuststoffe” reports about Busch’s centralised vacuum system

The specialist magazine “Kunststoffe” reports about a centralised vacuum system that has recently been installed at Phoenix Contact in Blomberg by Busch in its most recent issue. The vacuum system in equipped with 28 Mink Claw Vacuum Pumps from Busch and is responsible for the material feeding at the injection molding machines. Phoenix Contact is producing about 20,000 different small plastic parts on more than 100 injection molding machines. The vacuum pumps produce negative pressure for the pneumatic vacuum feed which is responsible for the transport of the plastic granulate to the individual machines. The article’s headline reads: “Vacuum conveying reduces operating cost” - with good reason: The energy cost alone has been reduced by more than 11,000 Euro per year in comparison to the previous vacuum solution. In addition to that there are substantial saving in maintenance costs. If you are interested in reading the article, you can request your personal copy via email to marketing@busch.de.

Vacuum technology for cleaning industrial parts

Busch’s COBRA is fast becoming the standard vacuum solution for industrial cleaning after attracting a broad expert audience at this year’s Parts2Clean tradeshow. The COBRA is a dry screw vacuum pump and is used in industrial cleaning machines to dry the cleaned parts - quickly and reliably. Thanks to its dry running screw technique the COBRA boasts several advantages over ordinary, oil-lubricated vacuum pumps in this application: High suction capacity with a low ultimate pressure, maintenance friendly, low energy consumption und high operating safety. Those were certainly some of the reasons that made COBRA one of the more noticed and talked about exponents of this year’s Parts2Clean.

Media report: Operating safety in vacuum generation with Busch

Busch vacuum pumps are at the centre of a report in the current issue of the journal JOT (Journal für Oberflächentechnik). The report mentions a manufacturer of coating technology solutions which has increased its operating safety through use of vacuum pumps from Busch. Since Trendelburg-based BlueTec have been relying on Busch's dry-running Cobra pumps for pre-vacuum generation, sediments within the vacuum pump are a thing of the past. As a result the risk of production losses caused by faults in vacuum generation is substantially reduced. The positive experiences led to the fitting of a second production plant with Cobra vacuum pumps from Busch. Under marketing@busch.de you can request a free copy of the article.

Fakuma: Busch unveils new product

The first public unveiling of Busch’s new Mink rotary claw vacuum pump was one of the highlights of the company’s attendance at the Fakuma trade fair for plastics processing. The pump has a suction capacity of 400 cubic meters and   is aesthetically fitted in black-varnished steel. The new Mink rotary claw vacuum pump is Busch's response to industry demands for the enlargement of its product range covering even higher suction capacities.

In the run-up to the fair, Busch was approached by several international customers and potential buyers - many of them from neighboring Switzerland. As a result, Busch declared Thursday "Swiss Day" at their fair stall and had some representatives of the Swiss Busch present. The most discussed topics at the Busch stall were pneumatic conveying and extruder degassing as they are the two application areas of Busch vacuum pumps for the plastics industry. Busch is developing individual solutions for extruder degassing in particular, in close cooperation with customers.

Professional Training „Made in Germany“

The mayor of Virginia Beach, William D. Sessoms, visited the Busch company in Maulburg with a delegation of local business developers for the second time. Busch is a big employer in Virginia Beach and maintains a big production plant for vacuum pumps. Sessoms plans to start an apprenticeship initiative for professions in the metal industry and wants to cooperate with Busch on this project.

The dual educational system in Germany which combines apprenticeships in a company and vocational education at a vocational school in one course is completely unknown in the USA. In the US professional qualifications are rare and reserved to a few dedicated professions. As a consequence modern factories in the metalworking industry – like Busch Manufacturing LLC – struggle to find qualified staff.

The visit gave the mayor and his delegation the chance to experience first hand how the dual system in organized at Busch.

The host Dr. Karl Busch told his visitors that he welcomed and supported the apprenticeship initiative. He emphasized that the profound professional training provided at his Maulburg plant made it relatively easy to have qualified staff and grow know-how. In the US on the other hand he had to rely on inhouse-training to make up for the missing basic knowledge of staff.

Energy savings with new vacuum technology

The latest edition of the German trade journal 'Allgemeine Papier-Rundschau' reports on the use of Busch Mink vacuum pumps in the manufacture of corrugated cardboard. A corrugated cardboard manufacturer has replaced its vacuum pumps, originally used for handling cardboard cut-outs, with Mink pumps. Due to the state-of-the-art claw technology, Mink pumps work very economically. As a result, this corrugated cardboard manufacturer has been able to realise energy cost savings of €13,000. As they are free from maintenance and wear, Mink claw vacuum pumps enable further massive savings on operating costs, due to the elimination of costs for spare parts and maintenance. In addition, the noise level is reduced by half. A pdf of this article can be requested from info@busch.de.

District administrator Schneider visited Busch

For an informative exchange of ideas, district administrator Walter Schneider visited Busch in Maulburg together with the economy agent Andrea Lutz.

In a motivated conversation various topics were discussed with the owner family Busch.

Dr.-Ing. Karl Busch said that globalisation was "one of the best gifts of this century, since it creates jobs, also in Germany". He also gave examples for it: Generally all Busch companies worldwide work together very closely and profit from each other.

For large orders some vacuum pumps are produced in Maulburg and completed to vacuum systems somewhere else in the world. Afterwards they are delivered to national customers. This division of labour creates jobs not only in Germany but also abroad. Therefore Busch is successful in fast growing global markets such as the solar industry or at the production of flat screens.

Another subject, which was important to district administrator Walter Schneider was the professional education at Busch. He was told that Busch had trainees in seven different professions and worked closely together with the schools and the DHWB (University of Cooperative Education).

At a tour of the company, district administrator Walter Schneider and Andrea Lutz were able to get an impression of a modern industrial plant, which is globally successful and has its roots and headquarters in Lörrach.

Cooking with Vacuum technology from Maulburg

Celebrity chef Stefan Marquard uses Busch vacuum technology for vacuum refining.

The refining of food under vacuum, known as "Sous-Vide" is a gentle way of cooking, which gets more and more followers also in the Haute Cuisine.

Stefan Marquard who is known from different TV shows such as "Die Kochprofis" and "Restaurant sucht Chef" relies on Busch vacuum pumps, which are "Made in Maulburg".

When vacuum refining of meat, vegetables or fruit everything is packaged under vacuum and then refined gently in the bag at low temperatures.

When food is prepared like this, it has quality advantages compared to normal cooked food because the natural taste and the flavours remain. The food also doesn't become dry. In the gastronomy it has also the advantage of longer defensibility and the food can be prepared faster after being refined.

Busch has been aware of this trend and therefore delivers the adequate vacuum pumps to a company, which produces the complete cooking units for vacuum refinery.

In canteen kitchens this way of cooking has been known for a while. Just in recent years the Haute Cuisine has discovered this way of cooking, too and more and more celebrity chefs cook under vacuum.

Lately the General Manager of the Busch Produktions GmbH in Maulburg, Ralf Kappertz has symbolically handed over a vacuum pump to TV chef Stefan Marquard during a big cooking event at the Starnberger See.

At the following big buffet the invited people were able to assure themselves of the advantages of "Sous-Vide".
